Kaila-ese 101

Kaila says and does the cutest things.

Her newest thing is picking up the phone and saying, "hi."  She started doing it when we went to Cabo.  We've tried to get her to say it on the phone to the grandparents when we're on the phone with them, but most of the attempts have been pretty unsuccessful.  She smiles and doesn't say anything when we put the phone to her ear, but when we take the phone back and start talking again, she inevitably says, "hi."  Just a couple days ago she said hi a few times to my dad, so she's making progress.

Other cute verbage:
meow.
Probaby the cutest meow ever.  She actually says it pretty well and with an actual kitty inflection.  Sometimes I wonder if she actually learned the meow from the kitties because it has that meow drawl that cats sometimes have.  She says meow when she sees the kitties, when she hears a meow, or randomly when she the mood strikes.

woof woof.
pronounced "wuh-wuh" or sometimes "woof woof" on a good day.  Meow's counterpart, woof woof is not as commonly heard, and much quieter than the meow.  She knows it's what the puppy says, and it's what Miso says, but also says woof woof when she sees many other furry mammals.  She chimes in when dogs around the neighborhood start barking, and seems to raise her eyebrows when she says it.

oh baby.
The connotation is usually consoling.  She hugs Miso, puts her head down on him, and says "oh, baby."  We pick her up, and she pats our back while saying, "oh, baby."  I think she picked it up because I say it when she starts crying because she hurt herself or something is wrong and I rub her back and say "aw, baby.."  Aaron said it's probably because he says "ohhh baby," and she mimics him.  This makes sense, because she does also use it in the context of an exclamatory statement, "ohhh baby!"

please.
pronounced, "beeeze."  I initially taught Kaila to place both hands one on top of the other, palms up to signify please.  I was taught this as a child, as were most children in our family.  I taught her the same way I taught her big brother Miso to sit, with treats.  They both learned in a day or two.  She started saying it one day instead of just putting her hands together, and it's the most irrisitable, cutest word.  It's hard not to give her what she wants when she says it.  It's getting harder now, though, because she'll say, "beeeze" randomly, but we won't know why, so we'll have to look around for a water cup or a book or a snack until she takes it and is satisfied.
**note**  we're currently working on thank you, but it's not as easy as please, because she already has the treat in her hand when she needs to say it.
