Gourmet Baby

Foods Kaila has tried so far (in this order):
  • poi
  • rice cereal
  • peas
  • carrots
  • green beans
  • squash
  • sweet potatoes
  • apples
  • peaches
  • bananas
  • pears
  • red puffs

Kaila hasn't really spit anything out because she didn't like the taste yet.  She seems to like everything.. a healthy appetite for our growing baby giant.  haha  Poi was her first food, so it was foreign, she didn't really know what to do with it.. but if we re-tried it, she might like it.  We don't really have easy access to poi, though.  She eats rice cereal pretty much every day for breakfast.  We've been trying something new about every 4-7 days since her first food.

We usually buy ready-made new foods to try for at least 4 days.  Aaron has been making Kaila baby food.  It's good because the food is steamed (so it doesn't lose a lot of its nutrients) and less expensive than buying pre-made baby food.  We know exactly what's going in it, too.  Pictured below is Aaron's second batch of home made food because I forgot to take pictures of the first batch.  The first batch was 1. sweet potato and 2. banana squash.  She enjoyed those a lot.  The second batch is 1. carrot/pear (the orange one) and 2. zucchini/fuji apple (the yellowish one).  She didn't seem to like the carrot one at first, Aaron said it might have been because of the texture.  He re-made it after cooking the carrot a little longer, and now she likes it a lot.  Still haven't tried the zucchini/apple.

Yesterday we gave her an organic cereal puff.  You're supposed to start when she can grab things with two fingers.. she ate two of them.  She did pretty well at melting them in her mouth and doing the chewing motion.  She bit them in half with her two front teeth when I gave them to her :)  she seemed to enjoy the crunch.  Not sure if she's totally ready for them, but maybe we can start giving them to her if she's with us when we're eating and she's not due to eat a meal yet?  I'm still not totally sure.. she doesn't seem super interested in eating when it's not meal time.  We'll see.
